“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Niccolo Machiavelli, on the Trials of Change

January 2022

Given my business, I know the recipe for solid communication — listen first, and then think before you speak, considering the audience. Yet often I’ll fall short in the moment. I don’t speak up, fearing contempt. Or I speak out in a way that sends people rushing to the exits. Blogging is easier, avoiding as it does direct contact with pesky people. I post when the spirit moves me.

Opinions are my own, not my clients’. Posts to date garnering the most comments are: “The Islamic State, Antiquities, Idols & Acronyms” (July 2015, under Global Affairs); “Brave New World” (December 2016, under U. S. Politics & Culture);  “Fetish of Process Perverts the People’s Business”  (April 2017, under Life in California); and “The U. S. is Less Than the Sum of its Parts” (4/16/20, under U. S. Politics & Culture). Subscribe to see what’s new, no cost. Hope I hear from you.
